Sloppy Joes

  • 3 cups TVP crumbles
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 8-oz. can tomato sauce


  • In a large bowl, pour the boiling water over the TVP and set aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • In a large skillet, sauté the onions until translucent. Add the garlic salt, pepper, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard and tomato sauce. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add the TVP to saucepan and stir together. Simmer on medium low heat for another 20 to 30 minutes. Serve over toast or on buns.
